About Rep
Does Rep cost anything?
No. Rep is free for households and for tradespeople, and there is no paid position. A household's home page carries one small, clearly marked advert; a household can remove it with an optional yearly pass, priced in Settings, which covers everyone at the address. Nule, the app for running a trade business, is a separate paid product.
How do I sign in?
With your email address or your mobile number. Rep sends a link and a six digit code. Either one signs you in. There are no passwords.
Is there an app to install?
Rep runs in your browser and can sit on your home screen like an app. On iPhone, open Rep in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. On Android, use Add to phone in Settings.
Does Rep work outside the United Kingdom?
Not yet. Rep identifies a street by its official UK street and property reference. Enter a postcode from another country and Rep offers to tell you when it reaches you.
Do you sell my data?
No. Rep does not sell personal data. If you accept cookies, Rep counts page views with the address stripped of anything that identifies a household, and shows one Google advert at the bottom of your home, Find someone and My recommendations pages. Google is never shown an ask, a vouch link or any page with a household in its address, and adverts never change who is recommended or in what order.
For households
Who can see my address?
No other user, ever. Households on your own street see your first name and house number. Everybody else sees the street name alone. Your postcode, your full address and your coordinates are never shown to anyone.
Why does Rep need my exact address then?
Rep works street by street. Your address tells Rep which street you are on and which houses are near you. Without it a recommendation could only say somewhere in this town.
Why does Rep ask for my location?
Once, to check that you are at the home you claimed. Your phone sends one reading. Rep works out whether it is close enough, keeps the answer, and discards the reading. Rep does not follow you afterwards.
Can I use Rep without verifying my home?
You can look around and claim your address. You cannot recommend anyone, answer an ask or confirm a job until you verify. Verify when you are next at home.
Two of us live here. Do we both need an account?
You can each have one. The house still counts once. Whatever either of you recommends goes out as this house, and either of you can see it and withdraw it.
Somebody else has claimed my address. What happens?
If you have already verified, Rep asks you whether they live there. Until you agree they see nothing and can do nothing.
What happens when I move?
Claim the new address. What you recommended stays with the street you recommended it from, because that street relied on it. Your new street starts empty.
Can I take back a recommendation?
Yes, at any time, from My recommendations. The tradesperson cannot remove it and neither can Nule.
Will a tradesperson know that I would not recommend them?
They are told how many households would not recommend them. They are not told which household, which street, or on what date.
How do I delete my account?
Open Settings and choose Delete my account. Your name, contact details, sign in history and verification results go. Recommendations you made stay on the street's record with nothing on them that identifies you. Withdraw one first if you want it gone as well.
For tradespeople
How do I get on Rep?
Search for your business and claim it. If a customer has already recommended you, those recommendations are waiting on the page.
Can I pay to appear higher?
No. There is no paid position and no promoted slot, and no advertiser can buy a place in the results. Your own pages carry no adverts. The households on the searcher's own street come first, whatever the numbers elsewhere.
How does Rep order search results?
By street first. Anyone the searcher's own street recommends ranks above anyone it does not, whatever the numbers. Rep then separates equally placed businesses with a rating, set out in full on the tradespeople page.
What counts as a verified job?
A job the customer confirmed at their own address. It means the work happened, not that the work was good.
A customer gave me a thumbs down. Can it be removed?
Only by the household that gave it. Nule does not remove a genuine thumbs down, and does not remove a genuine recommendation either.
Can I ask a customer to vouch for me?
Yes. Send them your vouch link or leave your printed QR card. They confirm the job at their own address, which makes it a verified job.
